Update on sleeping in the crib

Pumpkin has slept in her crib 2 nights and it has seemed to go well. She fusses a little when I put her down but she goes to sleep pretty quickly. Now I just need to break her of the habit of taking naps in her swing. The baby books say you shouldn't be doing that all the time, they need to learn to sleep/take naps in their crib. She is napping right now on her Baby Einstein play mat (on her stomach, no less, which is making me nervous). I was talking about this with somebody and they said I had to pick my battles. I guess I won't worry too much about napping in the swing, she's happy and growing and seems to be well-adjusted.

I guess I need to start thinking about dropping her middle of the night feeding, my only problem is I get plugged ducts if I go too long without feeding her (I have one right now, ouch, it is really painful). There are so many differing opinions out there, I just don't know what to believe. My pediatrician says not to start her on solid foods until 6 months but I know people who have been giving their kids (same age as Pumpkin) food for a month. Does anybody out there have a favorite baby book that they really like that has good info? I don't even have a baby book, what kind of mom am I?

Going for a walk

We went for a walk this morning at the state park and Pumpkin had a nice time. Lucy had a nice time at the beginning, but she didn't realize that it would be a forced march. We walked around the lake which was about 4 miles.

Pumpkin has learned how to do belly laughs. Daddy can get her going by yawning really big and Momma gets laughs by sneezing.

She gets the cutest dimples on her chin when she smiles.

Tonight will be a big milestone for Pumpkin. She is going to sleep in her crib for the first time. She currently sleeps in the bassinet in her pack and play in our room and she is over the weight limit for it so she needs to move into the crib. Also, this morning I woke up and saw a little head peeking over the edge of the pack and play. She had flipped over from her back to her stomach and was just grinning at me. It's a nice way to wake up, but it is probably best for her to move now.

Playing in my activity center

Pumpkin is finally big enough (and strong enough to hold herself up) to play in her activity center. It has these buttons that you push that will sound like a piano or it will say "I'm a zebra" or "I'm a giraffe" or it will play songs. She likes it, but she hasn't figured out how to actually make it work - it is more hit and miss, but she thinks she is pretty hot stuff when she sits in it. Oh, she also started reaching for me this morning. A says it is because she is wanting to chew on my hands, but I know better!

Just laying around

Pumpkin has learned how to push up with her arms when she is doing tummy time. She just started that yesterday. She is babbling a lot more now, too.

I was trying to get her to smile but this is the only picture I caught her smiling. When the camera comes out, the smile goes away.

Dedication weekend

Well, we had Pumpkin's baby dedication at church this weekend and it was wonderful. Thanks to all our friends and family who drove 3-4 hours to share this very special weekend with us. I think we took up a quarter of the church! OK, it was more like 3 rows, but still that was a lot of people. Saturday night was a lot of fun with our taco and game night, and we hope everyone enjoyed the BBQ. I hope to get the pictures later this week and I'll post them as soon as I can. For now, here is a picture of Pumpkin and her friend "N". He was having a great time, he really liked her dress, she was a little less enthused.

4 month pediatrician visit

Pumpkin had her 4 month visit on Tuesday and she weighed 14 pounds 11 ounces. She was 25 inches long and her head is 16 3/4 inches (which is 90th percentile). Wow, our girl has a big noggin. She did ok with her shots, Mommy cried along with her again. I've given up milk because I think she is having a reaction to it and her symptoms seem to have stopped. I'm really missing my cereal in the morning, but we'll get by. The Dr. said she was just wonderful and she has really good lungs.

Long time no post

Sorry it has taken so long to post, we've been a little busy. My camera memory card is full (surprise, surprise) and then we've had water damage in our house (long story) so I haven't had the time to post. Oh, I'm sick too. Anyway, here is a picture to hold you over until I can get some more taken (and my memory card cleared off). Pumpkin is growing like a weed, she was 14 lbs 4 oz. last Wednesday. I've dropped down to 7 feedings per day which is sooooo nice. She has found her feet and she loves to chew on her toes. I've just noticed this morning that she is really starting to get interested in how stuff feels (like my robe, a pillowcase, the carpet, etc.) and she is using her hands more to reach for stuff. She is starting to get interested in toys and she seems to enjoy being read to IF she is laying on the floor, not if I am holding her. She is such a joy and is smiling a lot more.
